Brickworks basses and cars – Iconic designs on display

Where do you take two basses designed by an American automobile designer?

I can think of less than a handful collectors (of any items), than can pull displaying their “passion mania” off, better than Jørgen Strøjer.

A journey through time: The Strøjer Collection (Strøjer Samlingen) was founded by Jørgen over 40 years ago. Fascination with technology and design has always been the driving force and has resulted in an exciting collection of over 100 dream cars in top condition.

I’m in awe of this outstanding exhibition and it’s the ultimate and perfect unexpected location for my Basses in Strange Places project. Thank you Søren and Jørgen, for this unique opportunity. You rock the house 🔥

Raymond Dietrich is renowned as one of the premier automobile designers of the classic era.

In 1962, Gibson’s President, Ted McCarty, sought to innovate new guitar designs to rival their main competitor, Fender. Known for valuing external input from diverse designers, McCarty found inspiration in the Kalamazoo area, where Dietrich had settled into semi-retirement.

After attending a local lecture by Dietrich on automobile design, McCarty approached him with a unique proposition: to design an electric guitar.

Unveiled in 1963, the Gibson Thunderbird bass guitars debuted with two models: the single-pickup Thunderbird II and the dual-pickup Thunderbird IV – and the rest is rock history…

Out of the ordinary, extraordinary

“Store Krone”, the Cadillac that took Montgomery to Amalienborg (Denmark) during the liberation in 1945. Note the “K1” number plate that refer to the car also being used by King of Denmark, Christian X.

This collection simply has it all, and the some!

Make sure to visit this fantastic location and expect to be blown away by how Støjer Samlingen pulled this merge of wild passion, cars, history and craftmanship off.

From vintage rarities to modern marvels

Cars are made to be driven – Basses are made to be played.

A day at the Strøjer Collection adds fascination and inspiration, and is an encounter with your wildest car dreams.

Occasionally Jørgen drops in on a tour or event unannounced and adds a little extra spice to the stories.

I have experienced this personally and let me put it this way… When Jørgen, in the spur of the moment and heat of the story, start the 1929 Alfa Romeo 6C Zagato engine in the robust showrom – Cover your ears! Wow 🔥

I’m truly grateful to have seen how he shares his authentic playful passion and encyclopedic knowledge, with his pleasant personality.
