The domestic heavyweight This early-2000s specimen is a prime example of the AJB-DX (Deluxe), a model originally intended for the Japanese domestic market. While the world saw standard export Aerodynes, the Deluxe features the sought-after top-mounted input jack and smoky chrome hardware. This specific model was the weapon of choice for Duff McKagan during the Velvet Revolver years, prized for its sleek tuxedo look and fast playability. To capture that signature aggressive growl, this bass is upgraded with a Seymour Duncan SJB-3 Quarter Pound bridge pickup, delivering the high-output punch required for modern stadium rock.
From FujiGen to Dyna Gakki, the build of these hybrids is a fascinating part of bass history. Read the Field guide to Fender Japan for a breakdown of the legendary factories and labels.
