The P-Bass with a Jazz soul The 44-64 Custom is Lakland’s tribute to the classic 1964 Precision Bass, but with a significant ergonomic twist. While a traditional ’64 P-bass features a wider nut, this Custom version is factory-fitted with a slim 1.5” Jazz Bass-width neck (love it!). This provides that iconic split-coil thump while offering the effortless, high-speed playability usually reserved for a Jazz Bass. This 2010 model features an Ash body and a gorgeous Rosewood fingerboard with block inlays and neck binding – a high-end aesthetic typically found only on ’66 or ’70s era Fenders, but here it’s paired with that early-60s P-bass growl.
This Teal Green machine is a true stage veteran, having served on Bad Boys of Boogie duty! Beyond its performance history, the 44-64 Custom is famous for its hybrid bridge design. Like its Darryl Jones cousin, it features the Lakland dual-access bridge, allowing you to choose between top-loading for a traditional feel or through-body stringing for maximum resonance. Interestingly, the 44-64 name is a direct nod to its heritage: 44 for Lakland’s 4-string series, and 64 for the year that defined the Precision Bass tone that this instrument replicates so perfectly.
