Engineered for resonance The BBP34 isn’t just another PJ-bass; it is a masterclass in Japanese acoustic science. This 2017 Pro Series model features a unique Alder/Maple/Alder 3-ply body construction, designed to accentuate the midrange and provide a quicker transient response. But the real secret sauce is Yamaha’s I.R.A. (Initial Response Acceleration) treatment. By applying specific vibrations to the finished instrument, Yamaha simulates the played-in feel and resonance of a vintage bass that has been gigged for decades. Combined with a 6-bolt miter neck joint that pulls the neck closer to the body, this Midnight Blue beauty delivers a level of sustain and stability that few production basses can match.
Did you know? The BB (Broad Bass) series has been a staple of the professional world since 1977, famously used by legends like Nathan East, Tony Kanal, and Peter Hook. This BBP34 model takes a clever modern-vintage approach to its bridge design: it allows for Diagonal Body-Thru Stringing. Instead of a sharp 90-degree turn over the saddle, strings pass through the body at a 45-degree angle. This significantly reduces stress on the string while maximizing the transfer of vibration to the body. It’s a tiny engineering detail that makes a massive difference in how the low-E string feels and rings out!

Spotted: The bass in the Wild
This Yamaha BBP34 has wandered far from the safety of the vault. It is now a low-end character in a strange new landscape. Can you find it hiding somewhere among the weathered wooden storage crates in our bass journeys?
